Cleaning Your Computer
Although many users don't feel comfortable in opening the case on their computer, some realize that there's not much to fear inside.
If you take your time, use common sense, and follow a few guidelines, you'll be able to safely open your computer case, clean the inside and out, and get back to work knowing your system is running at peak efficiency...and looking great.
What you should clean:
* Monitor
* Keyboard
* Case and Processor Fans
* Internal Electronics (motherboard, daughter cards etc.)
* External Parts of the Case, Monitor, Mouse etc.
Normally it's a good idea to start inside the case. Look at your manual or find the screws to remove to open the case of your computer. ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE COMPUTER IS UNPLUGGED FROM THE WALL BEFORE OPENING THE CASE!!
When the screws have been removed and the case can be opened, sit the shell of the case aside. The best way to remove dust and other particles from the fans and other tight spaces, is by using compressed air, made just for the task at hand.
Also, a very soft brush can be used to remove buildup of dust and dirt, but remember, a continuous brushing on the motherboard or other electronic components can cause a buildup of static electricity which can be extremely hazardous for integrated circuits, so be warned.
In cleaning the keyboard, it's recommended to get a cleaning tool designed for the job.
That should take care of the more critical areas, the areas that can and do actually cause hardware failures. In cleaning the outer areas of the monitor, case, keyboard and mouse, you can use a very mild cleaning solution and a soft cloth. Remember to use very little water. You want just enough to do the job, not enough to drip and run.
Lastly, when cleaning the actual viewing area on a CRT, LCD or Plasma Display, there is a gel that does the job wonderfully. It also comes with a cloth for the Plasma and LCD's.

There you have it, a guideline to help you keep your computer looking good on the outside, and keeping cool and running great on the inside.
