What is Computer Desktop Remote Computer Access?
By Pinky Mcbanon

You are due to give a presentation at work on Monday - you have worked all weekend on perfecting it and when you reach office you find to your horror that you forgot to update the file on your USB drive. If you have ever found yourself in a similar situation, you might have wished very hard for access to your computer at home for just a short while to transfer the file.

This is exactly the function performed by Remote Computer Access - it helps you to use a computer to connect to another computer over the Internet for file access and for getting information even when the computers are separated by several miles.

There are two ways of achieving this - one is to use the Shared file system provided by Windows and the other is to use commercial software with a proprietary system. Remote access need not be confined to file access alone; you can also control the desktop of a computer that has been configured for remote access.

Once your computer has been configured for remote access, you can sit in front of a computer anywhere in the world and use the Internet to work on your computer - of course, the main drawback will be the delay in the response from your computer which would be a function of the distance separating you and your computer and the network speed. Drawbacks aside, the flexibility provided by remote access is enormous and eliminates the need to synchronize files on two different computers.

The level of access provided by remote access depends on the operating systems used on the client machine and the remote computer. If you are using Windows XP on both, the task is simplified as Windows XP comes with inbuilt support for remote access. You can log in to the remote machine using the same credentials you would use while sitting in front of it. Remote access is also secure.

With the remote desktop enabled, you can run programs on the remote computer, edit, save and transfer files between the two systems. Be aware that file transfer may be slow. You can print out documents from the remote computer on the printer connected to the computer where you are working and also hear audio played on the remote computer.

Setting up the remote desktop under Windows XP is simple and access can be initiated by selecting Start->programs->accessories->communications->remote desktop connection. Just type in the IP address of the remote computer in the window that pops up and click on Connect. You can now access the remote desktop. Once you are done, you can log-off from the remote computer to terminate the session.

10 Top Ways to Build My Own Computer
By Pinky Mcbanon

You may have pondered about buying a computer for a long time. When you finally decide to take the plunge and get yourself a computer, it is time to weigh your options carefully.

The first question on your mind may be whether to go for a pre-built computer or to build your own. Both approaches have their pros and cons. When you go for a pre-built computer, what you really buy is convenience. Such computers are guaranteed to have no compatibility issues among the various components used, have technical support available and may come with warranties and service plans offered by the manufacturer.

With a computer built with your own hand, you get none of these facilities. What you get is customization and price advantage. On the side, you get to learn a lot about how a computer is put together when you build your own and you get a computer that fits your needs perfectly.

You can build your own computer in several ways:

1. You could buy the individual components of a computer and then put them all together yourself to build a computer.

2. A barebones computer kit comes with a pre-built skeleton to which you add a couple of components and have a computer ready to run.

3. You could go to an electronics retail store like Fry's and use the in-house experts to guide you in deciding what components to buy and use them to build your own computer

4. Your neighborhood computer technician is another good option that could be explored especially when you know what components to buy but are not sure how to go about building the computer.

5. Several computer component warehouses sell large volumes at low cost. If you have a tight budget, sourcing your components from such stores is a good option. The price savings can be significant in this case.

6. If you do not have an idea of how to go about building your computer, the Internet is an excellent source of information. Many websites guide you on how to select components, and give guidance on building the computer. There are also videos available online that show you how to do so.

7. Another favored option could be your friendly neighborhood computer geek. Geeks can be very helpful when it comes to Do-It-yourself projects like building your own computers. They have the requisite level of knowledge coupled with the research skills required to get the job done.

8. Another valuable source of information on how to go about building your computer is the public library. You may find several resources here that can help you build your own computer.

9. The science teacher of your local school is also a resource-person who can help you can see your project through.

10. If you know someone who has a homebuilt computer, you could ask him for guidance when you build your own computer.

Well, if you're looking for the cheapest computers online, you've come to the right place.

If you click the drop-down menu to your left, under where it says 'The Computer Store', you'll get eBay listings for the corresponding brand/type of computer that you select.

I'm not sure what's going on, but in the last 2 weeks or so since Christmas, I'm seeing some of the cheapest computers online that I've probably ever seen. I guess it's a combination of many people getting new machines for Christmas and listing their older computer on eBay. Possibly there aren't as many post-holiday buyers in the market, so there's a lot of great deals to be had.

Obviously eBay is known to be the best Internet site from which to buy used computers, but it's even better than usual right now.

If you've never used eBay, it's of course free to register and bid. If you see a computer or anything else that you're interested in, just click on it and you'll be allowed to register (and bid) on eBay's secure servers.

I'm back to look around myself. I've already had the winning bid on a dirt cheap dell notebook computer. I'm looking for another notebook so I'll have a second (actually third!) for the kids.

Hey, if you do win a bid on a computer, or anything else for that matter, don't immediately jump offline after you close the deal. I've bought everything from computers to video game consoles, and many other things. My point is...if you buy something that needs additional accessories or supplies (like print cartridges, which I've also bought CHEAP! on eBay), most anything that you could possibly need for that notebook or desktop computer can be found on eBay.

They've got every adapter, plug, cable or anything else that you'll want. Sometimes I'll get items virtually free...other than the shipping!!

One word of advice; I've been doing business on eBay for about 12 years or so I guess, and I've only had 2 minor incidents. The thing is, probably both could have been prevented if I had ask a question or 2.

That's the best advice I can give...ask questions on anything that isn't covered in the ad copy. There's some unbelievable deals to be had, especially in cheap used computers. Do yourself a favor and check out eBay first.

Good luck and Happy Bidding!!

Certifications are becoming a necessary part in the IT industry. They were established to guarantee that IT professionals followed a standard set of rules using a standard set of skills to ensure proper interaction with various areas of IT. Many certifications such as Microsoft, Oracle, and Cisco are developing rapidly in the field of IT.

I must say if a job is worth doing then its worth doing well to get a computer certification. Unless you are completely confident in your full understanding of all aspects of the world of PCs, you should take the chance and register for one of the training programs. These programs are developing such as to help you more.

These certifications will generally train you in the areas of "computer architecture, memory, modems, printers, hard disk setup and operating system optimization.

These certifications consist of two usual Exams. If you're interested in information technology and are considering your possibility as a computer service technician, these entry-level certification could be perfect for you. Some certifications are for beginners, some are for experts. Understanding where you fit into that spectrum will help you determine which certifications are appropriate for you.

You do not need high level certification in order to obtain an entry-level job. What you do need in addition to the crest that you picked up are a professional resume, good cover letter, interview skills, a

desire to learn, and a personality that makes companies want to hire you. Your first job will likely be at a help desk, working in a Tech support call center, contract work through a temp agency, etc. but you must have to go through any kind of certification before getting a job for your own convenience.
